So, we, the USA, traded a group of five Taliban prisoners for one American soldier. This soldier is suspected of actually being a deserter. On top of that, we had two soldiers killed while looking for him. It seems plausible that he did desert, since he walked away from camp with only a flashlight and a bottle of water.
Washington has their undies in a wad because of several reasons. Congress had their feelings hurt because they weren't asked. Five for one seems like a crappy deal. Consider that the Taliban prisoners were high ranking officials in that group of poop-heads, and our soldier is probably not very well liked in the military let alone a significant cog in the war machinery.
The hometown and the family of the soldier are very happy that he is coming home and I understand that. Time will probably tell what the circumstances of his disappearance were and weather or not the hometown fans remain loyal.
The disturbing thing to me is that we have played lets make a deal with an arch-enemy. On top of that, we proved to be really poor deal makers.
